Words with Friends 4.02 broken?

I have Words with Friends 4.02 installed to maintain compatibility with Mess with Words, and today when I tried to launch the app it prompts me to log in again, then fails, and throws up an alert telling me to click OK to download the new version from the App store. I don't want the new version, but this popup does not go away. Anyone else run into this? Is there a fix?

I think you have to update to the latest version or it won't let you play.
