Hello Everyone,

As the subject states, my work is purchasing me a new MacBook Pro for work. I currently have a 2014 model, and we get new work machines every 4 years.

Question:
I know I'm going to be entering the world of USB-C and dongles,so which dongles + accessories + cables should I purchase with my new machine? I know probably an extra USB-C MacBook charger for home, but what else?

Thank you in advance for everyone's time and help, it is super appreciated!

It depends on your needs. I'm sure you'll need USB-A connectivity, but do you need wired ethernet? HDMI? Card readers? Each of those can be bought separately, or there are combined adapters that have many or all of them in a single dongle. Then there's the question of which you need in the office, which you need at home or when travelling, and whether you prefer to carry a multifunction dongle with you or leave that on your desk and just have one or two things you need elsewhere as separate dongles.

My solution is a multifunction dongle on the desk (ethernet, HDMI, a few USB-A sockets) and smaller separate USB-C to USB-A (which I had a couple of anyway) and USB-C to HDMI (for giving prresentations) which live in my bag.

If you use USB flash drives to copy stuff between machines you either need a USB-C to USB-A adapter or you can get drives which have both USB-C and USB-A connectors (cost a little more, but more convenient).

That will depend on how you use your laptop.
What external devices do you use with your present MBPro?

Are you the only Mac user in your company? Or, are there other new users who will also be making the same choices?
