Sorry for changing the topic a little bit, but....
... I'm 16, going to be 17 by May 31 and I applied for a job at an Apple retail store. I applied online and specifically said that I was looking towards a job for the summer break.

Now, does Apple hire under 18?
Also, I applied for Personal Shopping Assistant and Mac Specialist...
... good choices?

Does anyone have any idea what the pay as well?

And if this doesn't work out, I hope my local best buy gets some Macs so I can apply there as well.

Yeah, if that's true... I'm BUMMED.

Well, I filled out those applications and maybe next week I'll go to the Apple store in person. I got to know the manager there since I was the first person in line for the iPhone at the store.

I also e-mailed the legendary Steve Jobs e-mail address as an added blanket.
:D

I started at my University's bookstore computer store. CompUCR at UC Riverside. I already at that point had a vast knowledge of Macs and PC's but you don't really know computers until you see some of the crazy things that people do to their machines and bring in for repairs. Seriously, I thought I knew it all back then but I hadn't even scratched the surface.

I doubt Applestores hire under 18 year olds (or any other major brand name retail store).

Let us know what happens! I want to apply to my local Apple store (will be 18 in November), I just haven't gotten to it because I haven't made a resume yet.
:)

Well, I have tons of friends who have jobs at Best Buy, Target, tons of Malls, Starbucks, Borders, etc. and they're all under 18.

So hopefully Apple is as cool :p

Well, let's hope that if things turn out well, I'll never be allowed to post on here again :p

I don't want to crap on your hopes...But the likelihood of getting hired at any Apple Store is almost impossible.

I have tried...lets see...3 times. 2 of those times I had interviews, the third time they just never called back.

I'm 18, college student.

Good Luck though.

The only way you're gonna get into apple even AT 18 is if you take a job like one of your friends and learn about sales.

I realize it seems like a sexy gig but its just like any other sales job. If anything find a job that might allow you to get some experience in sales and management later on.

Damn, I was going to try to get one over summer vacation from college.

I am 17, and I have just applied as a Mac Specialist at my local Apple Store (Bentall Centre, Greater London). I will keep you updated on what happens.

Can a NDA be applied to someone under 18?

I don't see why not. Minors can be convicted of crimes, they can violate copyright restrictions, all sorts of other nasty legal stuff. I don't think an NDA is considered the same as a contract, at least not in the terms I believe you're inferring. At most, there'd have to be parental consent/acknowledgement, methinks.

As far as working under 18, that's more the purview of the labor laws in the state or country concerned, rather than Apple. To do so otherwise would be age discrimination, and they'd have to show cause as to why someone under 18 could not reasonably perform the duties of the job.

Sorry to burst your bubble but I'm positive you can't unless you're 18. I applied online a few months ago after I turned 18, started going through the process and everything, they called me back and then asked how old I was (even though it says it on the application) and said they were sorry, but they can't hire anyone under 18. I doubt the laws change throughout the nation but this is in NJ, but I'm pretty sure it's a company thing.

I am sure it has to do with labor laws of some sort-- you can't work past a certain time or over a certain number of hours a week

I just read the Nevada Revised Statute concerning minors and employment,
apparently minors are kids under age 16. Kids under 16 have restrictions concerning certain occupations where work is prohibited (Apple doesn't fall into the restricted section). Kids under 14 need special permission from a district judge though.

So it looks like here in Nevada when you're 16+ you don't need to ask for special permission. So it's totally legit here where I work.

And yeah, NRS 613.330 states that unlawful employment practices include "To fail or refuse to hire or to discharge any person, or otherwise to discriminate against any person with respect to his compensation, terms, conditions or privileges of employment, because of his race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age, disability or national origin"

..Wow that's really lame. Alberta allows as young as 12 to work in very specific fields. (Cleaning at fast food chains and stuff) 13 and over is pretty much fair game unless it involves selling alcohol, cigarettes, and other stuff for adults. It's just a matter of whether or not you'll get hired.
