Ever since I upgraded to iOS 16 I've noticed that the Workout View feature is missing from the Watch app. It used to be under Workouts and allowed you to customize what you see in the workout view...say if you wanted to remove calories from your outdoor run workout. You can still modify this on the watch itself but it's a pain. I submitted a ticket to Apple.

I saw the same thing. And I don't know how to get the new metrics (running dynamics, etc) to display. I'm guessing another update is needed to "activate" the views/metrics capability?

I see them when I go to workout view of the workouts on the watch itself (not at all intuitive how you get there) but so far it doesn't seem like I've been able to activate them.

I noticed this too! I submitted a bug via Feedback regarding Workout View missing and not being able to see the heart rate zones while in a workout via Apple Watch. It looks like I have space to see the heart rate zones, but it’s not displaying? I also can see the heart rate zones when I go into the detailed heart rate view of the workout in the fitness app. In the demo it looked like this data was displayed on the Apple Watch while working out?

Yeah, I'm having the same issue...looks like the space is there to display it but nothing displayed. Probably not ready for prime time yet.

How do you modify the workout metrics on the watch? Have you been able to get the heart rate zones to appear during a workout?

After you have started a workout just swipe up to show the different metrics.
Agreed - not real intuitive...but while you see the normal workout (say, "Run" screen with HR, Time, Distance, etc), then swipe up to see the next metric. 1) Main Screen 2) Heart Rate Zone 3) Split Paces screen 4) Elevation Chart 5) Rings View. Not very useful screens, TBH, at least for me when running.

I don't know how to modify those. Or even if you can. I still can't find the "interesting" metrics like Run Power, Ground Contact time, etc. Quite prominent in the keynote and on review sites (DC Rainmaker) but not visible to me, yet.

They only show on the watch face in certain workouts like running, strength training, core. It’s annoying that scrolling down shows the ring update.

I tried boxing - nothing. Core - it shows. It should show in things like boxing … but it doesn’t.

For running and swimming I presume there are more pages.

But for every workout they are tracked in the fitness app in show more as you show.

I’ve discovered you can create a workout on the watch itself that shows you whatever metrics you want including the HR zones. So that’s nice.

Open Workouts
Tap the "..." on the workout you want to edit
Tap "Create workout" at the bottom or tap the Pencil on an existing one
Tap Workout Views then Edit Views

Just why do we have to do this on the watch where it's so cumbersome?...I sure hope the functionality returns to the watch app in a future update.

Still not fixed in the official release.
You actually edit those straight from the Workout app on the Watch, now. Tap the … menu on the specific workout, then the pencil icon on the workout goal. WatchOS 9 now allows you to set different alerts and metrics specific to each workout type and goal (or so it seems).

I sure found it odd that the metrics we set in watchOS 8 would be frozen forever going forward, since they hadn’t been reset to some fixed set of metrics that Apple chose for us.

But why can’t we just do it from the phone? Seems silly that they removed this. It’s pretty cumbersome to edit this on the watch.

Concur… not really sure why removing this capability from the phone watch app was necessary? Maybe to make the watch more stand alone, so not needing an iphone? Still, it was MUCH easier and more straight forward - not to mention more visible and legible on the iphone watch app.

All of my workouts now display with a much smaller font? Is that normal or did they change the font size for some reason? It makes it much harder to see and historially one could scroll through the individual metrics, selecting one would make it even LARGER, like HR but now that doesn’t seem to be possible at all.
