Ever since upgrading to 11.0 (and also 11.0.1), when I go for a run, my watch is constantly switching back to the “main” watch face while I’m running. I like to see my progress while I run, and I need to fidget with my watch to re-launch the workout app. Note that my workout is not terminated or paused … it keeps running in the background.

Does anyone else have this issue? It is mildly annoying.

p.s. I looked in the workout settings to see if there was a switch that was causing this, and I couldn’t find one. But I did find a funning setting: “Photos”. From the description, I don’t really understand what it does. And I was also amused to see that the same setting appears twice in the watch settings (once at the bottom, and once third from the bottom).

The setting you're looking for is kinda buried.

Check Settings -> General -> Return to Clock -> (scroll down to) Workout -> Custom and ensure Return to App is green under "When in Session"

I had this too with watchOS 11 and found it had something to do with the compass app doing backtracking.
There is a setting in the Training app settings to switch that backtracking off. Since I did that everything is back to normal.
