Title says it all. I have a 2015 rMBP i7, 16GB RAM that I'm seriously considering upgrading to the 2020 10-gen i7 model. Am starting to see lags on my rMBP, especially in Safari and overall system operations. Would you say the jump is worth it, especially if the webcam is still the same, and battery life seems to be the same advertised hours?

Thanks!

You don't say which i7 you have, but the 13" 10th gen i5 will be about 30% faster overall than the fastest i7 2015 MBP. The 10th gen i7 is probably only ~5% faster than the 10th gen i5 but with 10% price premium. The G7 graphics on both will be faster than either the integrated Intel gpu (by a lot) or the optional discrete AMD gpu (by some). I say go for it. I think the 10th gen i5/16GB RAM is the sweet spot for value, IMHO.

I am surprised that a 2015 i7 with 16GB RAM is lagging on things like Safari. Have you looked at your settings or overall installation before spending thousands on a new machine?

It might be. Catalina is a buggy, hot mess too, so there's that. I don't remember lagging in Mojave.

It's not only Safari; it's Photos.app (although I have a 30k photo library, so that might be it) and Finder/the general system software.

Is this on the 13"? I'm only wanting the 13", not 16".

I have the max spec 2015 13 from work and it can get slow or the fans can come on so I use my own 15 for work. If you're running Slack, Zoom, Thunderbird, Web Browser, and development tools, the dual-core can get pretty well taxed.
