My MacBook Pro from 2014 is acting up - keyboard issues.

Worth servicing? It’s worth 490 euro on Apple trade in, though possibly less with the fault.

What's WRONG with the keyboard?

If you're interested in the new 16" MBP, I'd trade it in.

If you want the smaller 13" model, I'd try to hold out until the 2020 MBP 13" (or 14") is introduced, probably May-June next year.

I wouldn't buy ANY MBP made between 2016-19 (except for the 16").
All have the badly-designed butterfly keyboard which is prone to failure.

The “z” key appears to be sticking. Even when I talk the key out it is still activating z every so often

Does the z key work with an external keyboard? If not, then it could be a software or setting issue. If it does, then just use it with an external keyboard. I have a 2014 and 2015, both used daily.

Just checked now. I'm typing this with external keyboard. So far, so good.

Any idea how much to repair a broken letter on the keyboard if that is the sole issue? I'm in Ireland.

I haven’t had any issues with the 2014 so I don’t know. My guess is that they replace the keyboard so probably $200. You could also take a look at iFixIt to see if they have something on fixing keys or replacing keyboards.

This is my first issue with my 2014 so well done Apple. I'm impressed. Not sure I'd be skilled enough to fix keyboard myself and the $200 mark is pretty ok.
