I see a G5 Quad on eBay for €159. Seller only speaks Italian and can't answer questions well at all. It is listed as not working. Claims it is loud on startup with lights. Won't do anything else. It is being sold in Germany so shipping would be cheap for me. Comes with original box and packaging too.

Lost cause or easily fixable?
Worthy of the risk do you think?

It could be as simple as ram installed in the wrong slots, or as bad as a blown cooling system. Definitely a gamble, go for it if your the gambling type.

Keep in mind that although the quads did have the best water cooler, they are now around 10 years old. Mine is holding up fine and no leaks or problems, but at this point, I would be willing to swap my quad for a dc 2.3 just to be rid of the worry. Pity nobody with one lives near OK. lol

I'm Italian, I can translate it for you. Send me a PM if you want :)

Leaks, pumps, etc.

The Quad cooling system is generally considered reliable, but that doesn't mean it's completely immune from problems.

159 € seems a bit expensive to me for an unknown condition Quad.

I got the impression the vendor wasn't particularly tech-minded, so I doubt there is much more information to be gleaned apart from the symptoms he described.

That's what he tells me too from his own PM's.

Sorry. It looks like you are left with tossing a coin on this one. I might be inclined to look a bit closer to home. These do turn up every now and then for around the £100 mark if you do have the time to keep tabs on them.

Having said that, this one comes boxed so it has a fighting chance of turning up in once piece as the foam inserts do a decent job of cushioning against drops. The one G5 I had shipped turned up pretty busted. The vendor used eight IDE cd drives to pack against the gaps between the top and bottom handles. That went well... I would only consider a pick up in most cases, now.

If you are interested (although they would have to be shipped) I have a true Early 05 2.3 that has never been ripped apart and a 2.0 DC in excellent shape!
