Would you guys say that going from an X to a 11 Pro Max is a worthy upgrade ? I wasn’t going to bother but really want the bigger phone again.

I went into my local o2 in October but you couldn’t see or feel the back due to security thing and it was on a demo mode so the screen was dull. I really wanted to hold the phone.

Been in Portugal the last few weeks and in their tech shop you could pick the 11 Pro Max up and and hold the phone properly and I really loved the look and different feel. Plus the screen looked better, must have been on a different demo mode.

Since upgrading to ios13 my X’s silent switcher has stopped working mostly and I have reset it etc and still doesn’t work. Guy in the tech shop in Portugal gave it a clean and did some things to try and fix it on Saturday. Plus the battery isn’t very good, have to charge it 2 times a day.

It is a big upgrade, yes.

Do note, changing your battery will improve your battery a lot if it’s over a year old.

Plus on o2 I’d pay £15 less a month and get 75GB more data. The contract is for 3 years instead of 2 but I’ll probably upgrade again next year anyway.

Don’t have to pay anything upfront.

Battery change? I ideally like to change my battery every 300 cycles or so. Leads to a big improvement.
Yeah changing the battery, but I was interested to see if the X’s battery was a big difference from my 7 Plus and the 7 Plus has a better battery which I didn’t know.

Not really. If you’re on iOS 11 or newer then X has a better battery than 7+. Especially if you use a lot of Dark Mode apps. At worst they’ll be comparable without any Dark Mode apps.

The battery is okay, normally get to about 4/5PM when it needs charging. An extra few hours will be useful.

I was trying to find how many more hours battery I’d get from going from an X to 11 Pro Max. Any ideas ?

I’d guess double easily. Though I‘ve not used a 11 PM. But if I were to guess, I’d say you’ll easily double your battery life.

That sounds great, some days I don’t finish work till 10/11PM so I charge my phone in evening there as my journey home is long and I rely on Uber for the last part of the journey on those 2 evenings. Sometimes the work charger disappears so double the charge of Pro Max will be really useful.

I think my daily average is like 6 hours.

What were the key changes from the X to XS ? I didn’t take much notice last year.

It was a very good upgrade for myself. Battery life is a massive difference, brighter display outdoors, camera is top notch (4K 60FPS videos + stereo recording + extended HDR, night mode, deep fusion, smart HDR), spacial audio playback when watching movies, bigger screen and better speakers.

The only negative is the size difference when I’m wearing pants with a smaller pocket. I‘m more aware of the phone’s physical presence. But the trade offs are worth the size difference.

Spoke with o2 tonight and got iPhone 11 Pro Max in gold ordered.

I talked to them rather than ordering it myself as I wanted around 30-50GB of data a month and the only tariffs showing were 90GB or 15GB. So it was 90 or 15GB (£5 difference in contract price), went for 90.

got a belkin 10W wireless charging pad for £20, he gave discount as a said I would go to John Lewis and use my staff discount to buy one, and that’s when he said he can give me a discount if I buy it now through o2.

For the gold and midnight green delivery is delayed to 3 days, literally got the email saying it’s been dispatched etc already which is great. I get back to UK very late Monday night.

It is a big upgrade even from XS or XS Max.

If nothing else, the better battery life and night mode are big reasons to upgrade.

I don't see the jump from XS to 11 Pro Max as ".....big upgrade".

I'm not a camera user so even this jump is not that great IMHO (I could have upgraded my current XS to 11/11 Pro but chose not to).

Personally, I would hang on until next year's 5G iPhones, especially that you'll now be tied into a THREE YEAR CONTRACT (a ridiculous contract length for a phone  ) ??!!

Night and day camera and battery performance difference is enough reason to justify the upgrade.

While I do not think 5G connectivity will bring that much to the table for the normal user in the foreseeable future, I find the upgrade X->11pro not that big of a deal.
A big pro: the added battery life, which I guess justifies the added bulk.
A big con: 3D Touch is gone.
Please note, I'm no photographer, the camera upgrade might be of bigger importance to you.
Maybe switching to the Max would have felt like the bigger leap, but I really can't handle that big of a phone.

I Miss the Force-Touch in the XS Max. I also find the 1 Pro Max screen a bit more sensitive (overtly so). But I think the 11 pro max performs better overall.

Seeing as apple do a supercycle every 3 years that is only when my upgrades will happen. The cyclic upgrades in between are usually slight and am in no rush to gain the smaller benefits. Holding onto my devices for 3 years seems sensible to me and the 3 year supercycle means my device is always on trend aesthetically speaking

For those of us that use the camera on a regular basis, it was definitely a big upgrade. Between the camera, the massively improved battery, better FaceID, etc, I do not regret it one bit.

Personally, I would hang on until next year's 5G iPhones

5G will be almost useless for the majority of users unless you happen to spend most of your time in a 5g pocket in a densely populated area that can have 5g transceivers literally at every street corner (very short range, blocked by almost everything including doors, building corners, etc).

As someone who went from the X to the Pro Max. Absolutely worth it. The battery life is outstanding, the screen is great, the cameras are great, on and on. Plus I love the big screen. When I got the X there was no Max and while it was a great phone (and still is...my wife has it and likes it except for FaceID) I so much prefer the larger phone. I never had the Max to compare to the Pro Max.

But I love the Pro Max.

Go for the upgrade, based on the issues you’ve written it’s probably time. Besides charging twice a day would make me go in insane. The iPhone 11 phones are great. The camera alone is just brilliant.
