Hello please help!

I have a 2018 MBA 8gb 256gb I bought from Hong Kong for around £1000. I can sell it today for just over £700 so £300 for 2 years use is not bad.

I just ordered a MBP 13" 2.0ghz 16gb 512gb from Amazon for £1375 (down from £1800!) which is cheaper than you can get in Hong Kong! I am not sure if I should keep it though.

The MBA was originally for light use, so in the first year I barely used it. Since working from home, I use it regularly (in clamshell) and for the most part its not bad at all. But small niggly things like not enough ports, it randomly fanning up, can't play xcom2 (I don't really play games at all) annoy me occasionally.

I thought that if I would get another laptop I'd get a low specced MBP from HK one day. This is obviously much high spec'd but so cheap.

So I don't know, is it really worth spending an extra £700 for extra performance? I also don't know when I will need to go back to office.
Another factor is would I be able to sell this for over £1000 in 2 years time with ARM ones coming soon? I go to Hong Kong often so laptops are at least 20% cheaper so I tend to upgrade every couple of years. If this holds its value then that's a big pro for me.

Any insights are welcome!

That is too steep for me. Your Air is a great machine for a holdover period. Otherwise you could buy MBA 2020 or base MBP 2020.

Not really. It has nothing to do that you will sell Intel Mac while ARM will be out there. It is just how the market works. When next gen is released, nobody cares about which model you bought whether it is $1100 base MBP 2020 on sale or top of the line $2000 MBP 13. I can see in the market, that prices under 1000 goes pretty well, because otherwise people have a lot of option for above $1000.
Like buying $1300 MBP and selling it around $900-1000 after 1 year is cool and doable.
Buying $1000 MBA and selling it for $800 should also be true.
But buying $1800-2000 MBP 13 and selling it in one year for $1400-1500 seems to be more complicated task.
