Would an edge to edge screen be enough?

A formerly popular rumor that hasn't been mentioned lately (any reason why?) is an edge to edge display that's somewhere between 3.5" and 4". If we get this with the iPhone 4 form factor, would that be enough for those saying they're going Android without a redesign?

If I had to guess, I'd say the edge to edge screen was never intended for production, but instead was a way to test the new larger screen without using the new iPhone 5 chassis.
