Think about it. It's been over a year since the iPhone 4 came out. Competition from Android and other competitors is growing fast. People have been anticipating a redesigned iPhone for months, and imagine the disappointment that would come when they announce a lame "iPhone 4S".

Would they really do that, knowing people will use their upgrades on the 4S, and then release an iPhone 5 only a few months later? I think that would anger customers/fanboys even more.

If there truly are production delays, I think they should wait until the iPhone 5 is ready and release it at the same time as the 4S, even if we have to wait a few more months.

iPhone 4 was the first redesign in 3 years. Why are you expecting a redesign after 1 year?

The people on this forum probably represent about 0.1% of the population who has/will buy an iPhone.

Point is, yes parts of the internet may kick up a storm, however it will not stop people from purchasing.

The general consumer won't be angry because they wont know what they are expecting.

Would Apple REALLY not give us everything we want and demand?
Uh... yeah

Apple works on their own business model and time schedule... not ours
We are free to make our purchase choices accordingly

I'm just curious on how Apple would try to 'sell' the 4S to consumers over the 4. For a typical, everyday cell phone consumer that texts, makes calls, and browses the internet periodically, what is the selling point that makes the 4S so much better and worth more money? If consumers did their research, they'd realize that they could save money by passing on the 4S and getting the 4.

A. Most iPhone consumers don't do any research
B. We don't even know what the mythical 4S even is
C. The 3GS was a worthy upgrade to the 3G

You might have a point if we knew what the 4S would cost, what it'd include (faster processor/ more RAM/ better camera), and if it's even going to be released. So far, Apple hasn't said anything so we know nothing.

If the rumors hold true and they release both the 4S and a 5, the 4S will (historically speaking) be significantly cheaper then the 4 currently is as well as being a far superior phone.... why wouldn't consumers jump on that?

A) So how are they gonna market it? "The iphone 4 but faster!"? Consumers are always willing to save a buck. So if they can save $100 on the 4 over the 'faster' 4S, I'm betting most will do that.
B) The 4S, being the iphone 4 w/ an A5 and 8 meg camera
C) 3GS was a much needed upgrade over the 3G. Much more of an upgrade from a 4 to 4S.

How can you say this without knowing what the 4s (if there is one at all) really is?

Size?
Cost?
Specs?

It is all presumption at this point

Again, IF they release 2 phones (the 4S and 5), they will discontinue the current model 4, replace it with the 4S, and let the 5 be their new flagship. There won't be an option for the 4 any longer.

Of course, it's all speculation at this point, but what is so hard to understand about that?

I'm going under the presumption that the 4S will be released soon, and the 5 will come after that..........like the OP said.

Comments like this are hysterical. We have absolutely no idea what the new phone packs but you've already determined it's not much of an upgrade?

Speculation is one thing, but comments like that aren't speculation. They're just completely wild guesses.
