if iu had a dv camera at one of the apple stores (not one of thiers) and a 12inch powerbook, would my brother be able to stream the event that way to my house somehow? my brother might go, and i want to see it live in case if i have to stay home and babysit my little brother who gets home from school that day the time the keynote starts.

thanks for any help!

Sure. I've gotten this to work before. You need to use Quick Time Broadcaster and mess with the settings. It still isn't that easy to setup the connection, but you can do it.

As for getting the camera in, will they let you do it?

err..i don't think they'll let you do that...i believe the keynote is being streamed @ http://stream.apple.akadns.net/ afterwards though

FYI, capturing and running Broadcaster on the same machine is not recommended at all (you'll barely get 12 fps). Plus you won't have the bandwidth to serve more than a handful of users.

Not worth it.

Although, bennet is just talking about his brother streaming it to one person (him). But that's a good point about the fps anyway.

my broter is prety friendly with the people at the palisades store, so i think he'l be able to get it in. it like Cheers when he walks in. everybody knows his name.
i know it's being stremed after, but i want to see it live if i can since i have to stay home and watch my little brother.

sorry to hijack....but do ya'll really think they wont let you in with a video camera?

What's the harm in it if it's going to be streamed afterwards anyway.

I'm planning on bringing my camera tomorrow to tape it for the boss (that's how I am getting to leave work to go...)

Good question. They might not let you in with a camera...;)

You should ask the store manager, just to be sure.

yeah right.

they'd be like "look at this suave mother f***er over here with that camera. We should give him a free TiBook." and all the apple store girls will be all "damn he's hot; I want him to do a custom install on me!"

I mean, thats about right, the exact words may differ slightly

i see no reason why they wouldn't let you in with a camera.

bennetsaysargh,
The reason they will not let you bring a camera in is simple. They are afraid people will record the location of security cameras and sensors so a robbery can be planned.

I once tried to film a movie with some friends in a mall in Louisville, KY. I was informed by security that nearly all stores and malls in America have a policy banning the use of video equipment by customers. You can mess around with equipment on display, but you cannot bring in your own video recording equipment.

If I were you, I'd just be content with watching the stream after the keynote had ended. In some states, it is illegal to bring video equipment into stores. I'd hate to see your brother end up in jail over a speech that can be viewed 2 hours later.

wow. i never thought of that.
but it's not like they hve the G5s lol:p
well, i wound up going because my mom picked my little brother up from school early so we could all see it. im happy.:D
