Alright so, I originally owned a iPhone SE since launch. it was really worn out so I upgraded to a new iPhone 7 128GB.

Everything is great with my iPhone 7, and I really love this phone.

Although now my wife wants a new phone, and i am considering buying a 8 plus 256GB for me, and a iPhone 8 for her.

I’m not very intrigued by the newest FaceID iPhones, they are also more expensive too.

So do you think I’d regret getting an iPhone 8, and a 8 plus now in 2019???

I really love the solid state home button on the 7, and 8 too, and wireless charging capabilities are welcome.

I’d love to hear opinions on this. This is a offer from AT&T for both phones.

In my opinion, one of the iPhone 8 models is the only iPhone to get.
In my opinion, the OLED screens on newer iPhones are horrible and a health hazard.
I'd never use one even if someone payed me $10,000. Really messes with (my) eyes.

As an 8 owner, I don't think you'll regret the 8+. It still has enough horsepower, imo, and with iOS 13 and promised efficiency, might put some extra oomph into it.

That said, I personally would want FaceID these days. Would be nice to just look at the phone to unlock vs. possibly having something on the finger and or home button preventing TouchID from working. Happens enough during the week to become a minor issue. Only problem, currently, XR is too big for my wants (don't want an old Plus-ish sized phone) and not willing to pay for an XS and its OLED tax, when the 8 is still in great shape (2020 or 2021 will be next phone purchase).

Based on your preferences I would say go forth with the 8 and 8 Plus. They are solid devices and the most refined of the series (and rightfully so being the last of the design). I have loved my 8 Plus the two years I’ve had it.

That said, unless Apple decides to implement Touch ID under the screen in the future, Face ID and the new designs are here to stay (in terms of the home button retired). You could do one of two things in my opinion: Get and enjoy the 8 and 8 Plus for several more years or try to embrace the direction Apple is headed with the more affordable Xr.

I’d wait personally to see what happens in the next several weeks. Prices should drop and carriers will still be offering deals.

It's a personal decision. I upgraded from my 6s to an 8 a couple of months ago and am perfectly happy. I wanted to retain the home button and touch ID, and am confident that my 8 will be a viable phone for several years to come.

Wait until the next iPhone launches then revisit.

I have an iPhone 8 for work and an iPhone X for personal. i really like the iPhone 8. It has the same internals as the X and the Wireless charging is a nice feature. It's fast and has a much improved screen over the iPhone 7. I don't think you would regret it at all.

Probably not. The 8 series is amazing. I love my 8 Plus. But wait for the price drop coming with the new models (2 weeks). But also look at the Xr and see if you can get along with Face ID. Because that one also has Face ID and it's around the same price as the 8 Plus.

Thanks for all of the replies everyone. I think I am going to go ahead and get them Friday then. I am to impatient to wait for the iPhone 11 to release for lower prices.

Is the gold model iPhone 8 rose gold? Every picture I find it looks like rose gold.

That would be a mistake. That phone is going to be 2 generations old in a week or so, plus you miss any potential discounts due to the latest iPhone release.

This makes no sense.

You waxed poetic this past week about what a great deal you got on a 6S Plus for $200, only to then buy a 7 for just a few bucks more, and now, despite the 7 being so great and being so happy to have bought phones on the cheap, now you want to buy an 8+ just because your wife wants an 8, and you are now asking us if we think you'll regret buying a 2 year old phone because it's 2 years old when you just bought 4 and 3 year old phones and had no qualms about how outdated they both were? And on top of that all, you don't mind wasting an extra $200 to pick both 8s up this week, just three weeks from launch of new phones, at which point these phones will each drop $100?

Good grief.

Specifically between the 8 and the 8 plus, if you're okay with the bigger size then you'll be happy with the 8 plus!

I had the XR twice and both times went back to the 8 (non plus).

I wouldn´t admmit any phone bigger, heavier or thicker, the 8 is just perfect (in fact the size and weight of the 7 is the best one IMO).

And the X is not the same, is bigger, heavier and chunkier.

Yes. Very. Visit an Apple Store and see the colors in person. I also did this. I liked the gold but after seeing them in person i went with Space Gray. Even though it's called gold, it's rose gold. Real rose gold, not the pinkish rose gold the 6s / 7 had. It has a cream-like beige on the back, and the bands are copper/salmon like. Not a bad color, but IMO it's for women only. Could be a color for your wife. While the regular gold color suited everyone, my previous 5s and 6s were both in gold. I really miss this gold.

Oh and for the price drop - nobody knows if Apple even sells the 8 / 8 Plus after the September keynote. It could be replaced by something newer. But there's the third-party sellers aswell such as Amazon and those phones are also new and sealed.

Let’s say that I was actually considering upgrading to iPhone 8 or 8 Plus before settling on X. Since day one when I bought the X, I’ve never enabled the Face ID feature.

You don’t know it will drop 100. iPhone 8 only dropped 50 last year. So I could just drop other 50 this year.

That is being said, he went on get 6S, 7 and 8 within a month. This is incredible.

Apple will keep iPhone 8. If Apple drops iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 all together, the then lowest entry iPhone would be iPhone XR(2018) or iPhone XR 2019. This would effectively mean, the lowest priced iPhone Apple sell is around 649 in case of iPhone XR 2018 or 749 in case if iPhone XR 2019. This would leave to much of market empty for Apple. And I can guarantee you this would not happen at all.

Your missing the point here. The 6S+ and iPhone 7 were both like $200 bucks each new, both unlocked, and neither on a contract. If I was paying cash for a iPhone 8+ I wouldn’t think twice about it. But I’m not. I am setting up two iPhones 8 models on a contract with AT&T. So, I was looking for some opinions on this as I’d have the iPhone 8 for at least the 2 year commitment.

Jesus. You are paying for iPhone 8 and it is full retail price. You are just buying it on credit this time.

I do believe that Apple will keep the 8 and 8 Plus in the line up as the entry-level. But no one can be 100% sure. Let's just wait 2 more weeks for the keynote.

I’ve never had a phone contract before, I understand if some people are jumping at financing a phone and not coming out of pocket up front. But, I’ve always purchased my devices outright including my iPad Pro 1TB. So the idea of getting a contract and two iPhone 8 models that are from 9-2017 has made me question the idea just a little that’s all.

New territory, and it feels like I’m gonna be chained to that device lol.

You’re correct, Apple absolutely will retain iPhone 8 in their lineup as the ‘entry-level’ iPhone. There’s zero reason to slash the 8, the iPhone 7 however will be discontinued. With the introduction of at least three new phones, there has to be change it somewhere, otherwise it just creates obfuscation.

So iPhones really have a 3 year life span in retail? That’s pretty good in my book.

I love iPhones. This is coming from somebody who was pro android, and hated apple anything for years.
