It really seems like there is becoming two distinct type of iPhone people out there. People who want an iPhone size as similar to the original version, and those who want the biggest phone possible and don't care how it looks. So rather than having anyone make compromises or get tempted by the competition then why doesn't Apple simply release two models (4" iPhone and 4.5" iPhone Pro?) and give the end user a choice?

With the smartphone industry (and its customers) evolving so quickly then it seems silly for Apple to stick to only one size option every generation rather than simply offering two models that satisfies both ends of the spectrum . They both use the same new 16:9 aspect ratio so I dont see any problems here. Apple wins, Consumers win and the only ones that would be hurt by this is the competition.

(Edit: I'm talking the same screen resolution and pixel density with the only difference being the screen size)

No.

It's always nice to have options but I would have to say its HIGHLY doubtful Apple would fragment the system that much.

Yes, there'll be several versions of the iPhone 5.

iPhone 5 Starter
iPhone 5 Home Basic
iPhone 5 Home Premium
iPhone 5 Business
iPhone 5 Enterprise
iPhone 5 Ultimate

They'll continue to sell the iPhone 4 and 4S. Plus the iPhone 5.

That'd be 3 different models, two different sizes.

No need for 2 x iPhone 5.

This type of choice is not welcome in iLand.

I am stumped at why Apple hasn't reduced its macbook line to just one size only too. Makes it non-fragmented right?

OP, do you want a bigger screen with the same amount of pixel ? Or different resolution? With the later it gets a bit more complicated as developer would need to adjust for more options when define the layout. On a rather static concept as with iOS that will not happen. iPad mini as rumored is different as they pixel amount supposed to be identical to iPad 2, just smaller size.
Therefore: only one iPhone ...

The iPhone is a product with such a wide range of diverse apps, usage scenarios and users so I guess I'm having a hard time understanding why it is that with so many people out here feel the is only one "correct" size.

Just curious, but if both models have the exact same specs and aspect ratio with the ONLY difference being screen size then how would it "fragment the system"?

What if they keep the same resolution and pixel density? I think that's what OP is trying to say

Nope, something has to give. If screen size increases and pixel density staYs the same, resolution must increase.

Making the screen larger without upping the resolution is pointless. Why on earth would anyone want that?

Due to LTE devices or parts as of now a 4 inch screen or bigger. I read it somewhere and honestly if you dont like it dont get it simple as that.

I rather see an all glass iphone or 90% one :)

Anyone else read the OP's name as "asswipe", then did anyone agree based on the logic of this thread?
