I have a S6, but am thinking about getting a second watch that I can just swap out for certain occasions etc. or sometimes I just get bored with mine now that I want to a change sometimes.

since a lot of places are running sales on the SE, would it be dumb to get one now when we’re literally about 3 months away from the S7? Only downfall is the S7 is probably going to run around $399 and that’s a bit high for a watch that I’m not going to be using daily. Or is there a better route to go by choosing A refurb s5 or something?

The SE is nice, but maybe there will be another one this year. So better wait until new model are released if you can (and older one will be cheaper)

The SE phone refresh cycles is longer than the regular iPhone. I wouldn’t expect the Watch SE refresh cycle to be the same speed as the regular Watch.

No one can know for sure, but I doubt that we will see a second gen SE this year. If you take the iPhone line up, the SE was updated only two times in six years. If you consider that Apple Watch have way more incremental upgrades year on year, it doesn’t make sens for Apple to update it this fall. That said, I could see Apple lower the price a little bit and make it the entry version to replace the S3

And regarding the S7, it’s up to you, but you can count on one hand the numbers of different features between the SE and the S6. Except if you look for very specific use cases, I think the SE or a used/refurbished S5 could be a better deal

Let me throw the S4 in the ring… IMHO a great alternative to an SE - plus it has EKG ;-)
That’s what I bought in addition to my S6 SSG, got me a SSBS S4 and I‘m really happy with my purchase.

It's your money. Do what you want! I upgrade my iPhone every year and plenty of people think that's a waste of money. I personally would never want to wear an SE when I already have an S6 but you do you.

A smart watch should give you between 60-120 dollars a year in value. So if an Apple Watch is 400 dollars; you should plan on keeping it for at least 4 years.

If you want to work out actual value of the Apple Watch: If you have Apple Pay with your card you receive 1% back on most purchases, using Apple Pay(with your watch or phone) you earn 2% back. If you spend 10,000 dollars a year using Apple Pay on your watch over using the card, you have gained $100 back and the watch has paid for itself.

I don’t understand the premise here. You have a S6 but want to add an SE because…? Just to have a different color or…? The S6 is the same as or better than the SE in every way, so I’m not sure why you’d do this.

If the OP doesn't mind used, that is the route I would go. I purchased a second hand SE from Swappa to use when golfing or at the pool with my son. Basically something I can wear when I don't want to bang up my SBSS S5.

Tell me more. What quality did you select on there? I went into Mint and some are $239 but only in silver.

Curious…. why?
Because he/she already has an S6 and there's nothing the SE will do better or different in any significant way. It's a waste of money. Not my money of course so quite frankly I couldn't care less but since he/she is asking for opinions I felt entitled to share ;)

Good to know, it sounded like a general statement and since I own an S6 and an S4, simply for the reason to switch to another case color if I want to and also to have a watch to wear when the other is charging, I wanted to know your reasoning ;-)

The one I purchased was in 'good' condition. It had some signs of use on the screen on the case itself. But since I planned on using it to get banged up, I didn't mind that it already showed signs of use.

It just depends on the overall condition you want the watch to be in.

Upgrading an Apple watch and keeping the older one for certain occasions (like hiking where you don't want to risk your expensive watch) is fine but having the latest and getting an older one, I'd have to say 'yes' to your question. Getting a hybrid with a circular face would be cheaper. Also I'd rate AW5 over SE

I always buy NOW what I want NOW. My simple rule for myself. If the thing gets obsolete one day (because for example something better gets released later on) I sell it.
I've just bought a gold stainless steel Apple watch 5 even though I already own a series 6 in silver stainless steel. According to many people this is dumb too but I couldn't care less. I'm also considering getting a black Apple watch too, to go with an all black outfit. My money, my decision. Life is short.

Love this mentality. I guess I shouldn’t care about what others think and do what makes me happy.

The newest leaks suggest that AW 7 might not be as special as everyone thought it would turn out. So, buy now what you're looking for. I've not upgraded to the 6 in September straight away because I was still content with my series 5. Only in March this year did I decide to upgrade to the 6, which is quite late. And I even chose the Hermes edition, just because I wanted to. 🤷‍♀️

Another thing - the current design is tried and tested. The rumored new design will have to be tested and I'll wait a few months before the real user reviews start coming because initially, even if there are thorns where the heart rate sensors are, people are going to appreciate it just cos it is new
