Right now I have a 5400 RPM 250GB that comes with the 15" MBP. I am an amateur photographer and take a lot of RAW pictures. So I am running out of space. I am going to upgrade to the 320GB Western digital, the only question is 5400 or 7200 RPM.

I use Apple Aperture and Photoshop CS3. Will I see an improvement in speed on either program?

Will this help write my large RAW files faster from the camera?

I don't know if you'll actually see any speed improvement, but it certainly won't hurt to go with the 7200rpm.

For photography, you won't see much improvement unless you are trying to scroll through many pictures.

I would recommend the 500GB drive. It's not as fast the 320GB 7200RPM drive, but it's almost as fast, and it's more spacious.

as a photog I can tell you that the 7200 drive makes a difference. If you shoot raw and use aperture it loads those files quicker. I also put 4gb ram into my mbp and that's also really helped.

So go for the largest and fastest drive you can.
