I believe the only 500GB drive that is not 9.5mm is the Hitachi 500GB. The hitachi drive will work in 17" MBPs, but not the 15.4s.

I will 2nd the 500GB western digital drive, I recently purchased the WD after looking into benchmarks etc. Honestly, the Seagate, Samsung, and WD 500GB drives all perform very similarly.

Any 9.5mm hard drives will fit. I don't know how to tell by the model # if that's a 12mm or a 9.5mm drive(height wise) as the 12mm are too tall to fit inside the Macbooks. Unless you got the 17" Macbook Pro.

This drive will work though.

have you installed this one or know someone who has? i'm weary about spending that much and it not work..

and i have the 15" so whatever size fits that..

I haven't as I don't have a MB or MBP but any SATA 9.5mm drive will work.

Try a search for that particular WD drive ~~>https://forums.macrumors.com/search/?searchid=13669705. There's quite a bit of threads mentioning that drive so go through them all and see what you think.
