Would this make a good server?

Hello,

I've spotted a Power Mac G4 "Quicksilver" on eBay for $100 shipped.

Here are the specs: Dual 1 GHz processor
768 MB RAM
No HDD
No Optical Drive
No OS

This looks pretty good, but they say it won't start. I've read that it is usually a dead battery. Its got to be in this one, as they say the PSU is good.

What do you think about the serverworthyness of this PM?

And how would it compare to my 2 GHz C2D mini?

Thanks. That is sorta what I expected. It ends in about 20 days anyways.

This particular one has a Zip drive. I've no use for this, so is it possible to install another optical drive?

Optical i don't think so, without modding the case, as zip drives are usually smaller in size. At least that is the case with my Sawtooth. But you can replace it with another HDD if you like..

On the outside of the case at least, the optical drive and the Zip drive are the same size.

BTW, the Sawtooth just has a faceplate on it, so it can't be too hard to put another optical drive in it.
