iPad mini Would this work? Buy and exchange later

Need an opinion on this idea. Currently American Express membership redemption has a sale going on. it's 30% off current point values to apple products.

Would this work if I buy 2 ipad mini now with my points taking advantage of the sale and hold on to it and once the new ipad mini comes out, I will go and exchange the old ones with the new ones?

Would Apple honor the exchange? I will be purchasing using Amex points thru Apple stores.

Just getting ready for my sons' Xmas presents.

I doubt the next iPad models will be announced this month. Based on last year, you'll probably be looking at the end of October for new iPad models.

Of course this is all speculation on my part, but it feels like there haven't been enough iPad rumors yet for the next iPad models to be ready this month.
