Ok, I am thinking about replacing my crappy computer with an iPad. My computer is hooked up to a printer via USB. My question is, could I hook up the printer to the iPad via Apple's lightening to USB adapter cable? Would that work?

Thanks!!!

No. Buy a printer with Airprint or use Airprint Hacktivator for it.

As long as the printer has an AirPrint logo of some sort, it doesn't require a computer

Thats great news!!! Thank you! I thought it would require a computer for set up

No setup required. Turn it on and on your I device hit print and you will see the printer listed. But wait, you may Have to tell the air print printer your wifi password first, I think. It's been a while...

You have to connect your printer to your network somehow. So either you tell the printer your wifi password, or you can hook up the printer with an Ethernet cable if you want.

Yup, the point is that they have to be on the same network. If you're printing from home, you are probably already set up.

Hey guys! Sorry it took me so long to reply :p

OK, Im looking to get this one: http://store.apple.com/us/product/H9345LL/A/hp-photosmart-5520-e-all-in-one-printer?fnode=38

Will this need to be hooked up to a computer?

Forget about HP printer but you can find cheap Canon AIO (All in One) with AirPrint. My friend asked for help picking the printer so He bought it and wanted me to hook up to his PC and wanted me to set up for AirPrint it was very easy to set it up (this is my first time with AirPrint set up). :apple:

EPrint also works and can be done via email to the printer email address. I've been using it to print documents on the other side of the planet. The printer just needs an internet connection and I have a router set up for it.
