Hey guys, looking to get a new monitor for my unibody MBP.
It seems there has been some problems with hooking up monitors, and was just wondering f (theoreticaly) this would work :
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/152744#
It is a 23" samsung monitor, but it has a resolution of 2048x1152. I would be hooking it up with DVI with the minidisplayport > DVI adapter. Im assuming DVI can carry that signal (or VGA) because it has DVI and VGA inputs.
Just checking if the minidisplay port would output this over DVI, cause i know it can power the 30 inch cinema displays but with extra cables and stuff.
Any thoughts guys?
Thanks :D

DVI-D, I believe

I believe you'll have to get the DVI-D cable (99 bucks) and probably a 3rd party DVI-D extension cable. With that (and the appropriate audio cable, of course) you'll be gold.

thankss
can someone clarify that i have to get the dual link dvi cable?
just a bit if info, dvi-d does NOT mean the dual link one apple seel with the usb as well; dvi-d is a standard of dvi cable, just lettin ya know :D

I may have misspoken

I did mean the dual one.
DVI is not where I spend a lot of my time, but I do believe dvi-d means dvi-dual.
But I may be wrong.
However, higher resolution dvi DOES require the dual cable.

Solution: HDMI. Anyone in Cupertino listening here?

yeahh i know itll output 1920x1080 over DVI, cause thats what ill be gaming at, but was just checking because of the higher res whether itll work or not!
Please anyone know?
Need to order the monitor within the next hour to get it soon! :)

Could be trouble

I just went up to the Mac Store and read reviews of the mini-display to Dual-DVI (99 dollars) cable.

One guy was using a Sammy like you're planning to, and it worked, but had flicker issues.

Sorry, I can't find anything quickly better than this. Good luck, and post up if you find a solution!

All my best!

Edited to add: The ony people who seemed to be having great success were those who stepped up for the Apple Cinema displays. Once again, money fixes issues!

ah okay, thanks man :)
Well im going to order it soon regardless, does ANYONE known if ill need that stupid $99 adapter to put the resolution of 2048x1152 over DVI using the macbook pros mini display port to DVI adapter?
Thankyou!

You probably don't need the dual-link adapter considering single-link can run that resolution.
