Same polished aluminum black as the Mac Pro.

If the rumors are right, a 12-inch retina display encased in black … I think it'll be an even more successful product.

i don't see why its not possible either. I guess it must be something to do with the durability of the "anodized" black color of apple's products.

It would probably get scratched more from being carried around, the silver doesn't show flaws as much as a shiny black would.

There is no 'surface' on the current silver MBA. That's what the aluminum looks like the whole way through.

If it were black, wouldn't it then have a surface that a scratch could easily be seen?

How about if it were "Space Gray"? It's a more durable formulation that's proven on the iPhone 5s.

I had one of the old black PowerBook G3's, always liked that one but it would be a huge boat anchor by today's standards. You could pop out the CD drive and pop a second battery into the slot. I think it might have run as long as 3 hours with two batteries. :D

IIRC, it was also the first laptop with a glowing Apple logo, but the Apple was upside down when the lid was open. :)

My favorite was the 12" PowerBook. A better display ratio than the 11" Air. And the ergonomic, molded keys were the best.

The PowerBook Duo was probably my favorite until I got my first MBA. I remember marvelling that such a tiny computer was just as powerful as my big Mac IIcx.

Yes, I still prefer the shaped keys of my 2007 MacBook Pro (which are the same as the keys on the 12" PowerBook) over the chiclet-style keyboard they use today. I'm still getting used to the awkward feeling of hitting the edge of the keyboard "floor" when I press down on the keys off-center from the pad.

As for a "space grey" MacBook Air, I think it would look spiffy, but some might think it looks too close to a Samsung ultrabook!

Yes!

I loved the look of the Black MacBooks. Apple did it great the first time, I would think it would be hugely successful again now!

Yes and no. Uncoated aluminum is pretty soft. Thicker / tougher anodize is darker. So to get lighter colors (including bright silver), ano has to be thinner. So the choice is between soft+bright that scratches more easily but not as visibily. Or hard + dark that holds up to scratches, that would be more visible when they happen. In practice, it takes some pretty major impacts to break or scratch full thickness hard (type III) anodize.

I like how the current one is pure aluminum, no coating (a scratch does not change the color).

black is awesome
but what about : TRANSPARANT CASE for Macbook ?
i think it's like a "future laptop" :D:rolleyes:
