Would you buy a mid 2012 MBP?

Someone at work is selling a mid 2012 15" Retina i7 MBP, in perfect condition. I am really interested, but is this model too old? The specs are pretty beefy:

Is $600 a fair price?

Does it have 16GB of ram? That would be a big deal to me. If you can, I would go with at least a late 2013 model. It is almost impossible to get a good battery for the 2012 retinas. It took me all of 30 seconds to find a late 2013 model for $600 in great condition with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage on eBay. The late 2013 has more RAM with the base configuration, faster SSDs that can be upgraded later with an NVME drive(at the cost of heat and battery life), and better battery life overall.

Yep 16GB RAM 256GB SSD. Ah ok, I will check out the 13s. Do they have discrete video?

You might look at 2014s in your local area. I have seen one or two for $600. They usually go for a little more but you'd be getting quad core instead of dual core if processor speed is an issue.

I still use a 2012 15" Retina MacBook Pro myself. If you can negotiate to $500 and the battery is in good condition, go for it.
