Assuming I want a Macbook Pro and I'm finding a decent deal locally on one that is spec'd just like I've been wanting, would you pull the trigger knowing that, other than the keyboard, any other issues that arise wouldn't be covered (since there's no warranty left)?

And, even for the keyboard, knowing that if any issues arise, one could potentially be without the laptop for 5 or more days if Apple has to send it away to be fixed, would you still consider it?

Thanks

No. Everything is soldered. One thing goes bad, a whole portion of the computer needs to be replaced. Warranty plus AppleCare is the only way to go these days.

I would certainly consider it if the price was right. The keyboard problems are more frequent than previous models, but still a small minority of machines... and the fact you will be able to get a free replacement for four years out-of-warranty would mostly negate that issue for me.

Overall, the 2016-2017 MacBook Pros seem to have higher reliability than previous generation MacBooks, at least in the first year. See:

Don't forget to look at refurbished models from Apple... I believe they come with a warranty.

My logic board just had to get replaced on my 2016 MBP - Glad that I had AppleCare.

I would. As poorcody said, you have to consider the price you’re paying.

I’d buy that. It’s priced really low compared to new machines. Yes u just have to weigh yourself right received risks against your savings. If at some point you have to put out to fix something you might suffer a loss. If you don’t, you’ve made out well.

That's a pretty good price. If it's a local buyer, I would test every single key at least twice. (If any keys don't work, I might offer $200-$300 less and see if they bite. Would be worth sending in for repair at that price. :))

Would not touch such a beast with a 39 and half foot pole, to quote the Grinch. Soldered, keyboard issues, loose USB-C ports . . .

Most MBP are that in use are out of warranty either because the 3 AppleCare or 1 year warranty is up. If its the keyboard that fails one without warranty is covered just as long as one with warranty. Its 4 years from purchase date. Go for it!

I opted out of this one and bought a 2015 13" Macbook Pro with 16GB RAM but only a 128GB SSD from the same seller for $675. If the logic board or something else goes out on this one, I'm not as worried as I would be if the same happened to the one in my original post.
