One is 27" and the other is 32". The Studio Display is newer and I believe technologically more advanced, or let's say, more mature.

I believe the Pro Display XDR might have been something like a prototype for the Studio Display. Very expensive, and therefore financed by those who could afford it, to open the path for the masses, which the Studio Display is aimed at.

The Pro Display XDR doesn't have speakers or a camera, which I don't mind to be honest, but what bugs me are the technical issues I've heard about. Especially those varying brightness stains that are left on the screen.

Do you think the Pro Display is a technically better display? If money was no object (or if both cost the same price), which one would you prefer, apart from the size?

I don't do any photo or video editing, but I think I'd like the bigger screen. That's really the only thing that makes me want to go for one.

I'd also want to keep it for long enough (maybe 10 years?) but I'm scared the Pro Display is technically not mature enough to survive that period. And I'd be really pissed if I'd have to swap it in 5 years from now.

I've had the choice: buying two Studio Displays or one Pro Display XDR. Both were around the same price, because the Pro Display XDR is an open box-product. At first, I decided to go for the Studio Display. But I kept eyeing on the Pro Display XDR. After a week of going back and forth, I have decided to go for the Pro Display XDR.

I picked it up last Saturday and I am very happy with my choice. I more enjoy sitting in front of a big 32 inch screen instead of two 27 inch screens. I just need one middle point that I can focus on. That's just personal preference. I am not concerned about the 'technical issues'. I do not see any brightness stains, as Cyberport first tested the screen before selling it.

Also, I am not concerned that is won't survive a period long enough. I have warranty until november, but simply I am not afraid it will die anytime soon. :) If you want it, go for it! Otherwise you will end up disappointing yourself, if the Studio Display is not what you actually want.

Honest question - in what way is the XDR less technologically advanced than the ASD? Webcams and Speakers aren't part of the equation since we are talking about a monitor.

Everything I'm seeing states that the XDR is better than the ASD in every meaningful specification. Why do you say its a " prototype"? Are you thinking of the backlighting tech? The ASD took a massive step back in that regard since its using the 20? year old option and not local dimming.

I'd buy the XDR 10 times outta 10 given the choice - I just don't have the money for one lol.

I would happily swap my two Studio Displays for one XDR.
I purchased the two ASDs because the pair was still half the price of a single XDR Display.
But if anyone wants to swap, I'm more than happy to do so.

I got my studio display a little over 6 months ago, if I could have had the XDR for $500 more than the ASD, I would have done it ... but that's not reality :(

That was exactly my thought, because in my case the XDRs weren't that far from the Studio Display. But my Studio Display has still a few years of Apple Care, whereas any XDR I could get doesn't. And when you hear about those technical issues the XDRs have had, I find it kind of risky.

I think I'll wait until the new display comes out (apparently something is going on). Probably the price of used XDRs will fall then. My Studio Display will still have Apple Care and I'll be able to sell it well I think. But time will have passed and the risk for the XDRs to have problems will increase too.

Let's not forget that the XDR will soon be 4 years old. I don't know if there's a difference in models. Perhaps more recent models have received some improvements, while the early models may be problematic.
