Costco has the Apple Watch Ultra 2 Titanium, with the blood oxygen sensor enabled. I have the Ultra 1 with a battery capacity of 87%. I can purchase the Ultra 1, and trade my Ultra into Apple for a gift card, to use towards the iPhone 17PM next year.

I have sleep apnea and use the blood oxygen sensor at night alongside with my CPAP machine, so it has been a nice feature to use, hence why I need the feature. I’m only thinking of upgrading due to the sensor possibly being deactivated, on the refurbished unit that I will receive when it’s time for a battery replacement.

What would you do? Would you keep your UW1 and wait for the next Ultra, in the hopes that Apple works out a deal and have the sensor reactivated, or would you upgrade to the UW2?

I upgraded from U1 to U2 last year, better battery life, faster SIP ( faster OS installs) were the key advantages for me.
When SpO2 returns is totally in the dark, they are still in court (see pg1 article from yesterday).
If you have AC+ on your U1 and the battery will get replaced under AC+ in the future, your refurb will come with SpO2 enabled, Apple has said so and there have been threads and I think an article on that.
If you can snag a U2 from Costco with SpO2 enabled, I’d go for it

I just received my Ultra2 from Costco with SPo2 enabled and besides the fact that the included band is only available in small, it works perfectly. It was manufactured in December 2023 and had a depleted battery but after charging, it shows 100% capacity and is getting excellent battery performance. I upgraded from a S6 and the Ultra2 is a great upgrade. Performance is excellent and the battery life is amazing! I can't help you on whether it's worth upgrading from an Ulta1 but, in my case it was a worth while purchase.

I had my S6 battery replaced under AppleCare+ last month and the refurbished watch had the SPo2 enabled when I received it. I was told if you have a watch with SPo2 enabled and you get it replaced under warranty (either regular warranty or AppleCare +) you will receive a replacement watch with SPo2 enabled. If it out of warranty, you will receive a replacement with SPo2 disabled

One of my friends had her S6 replaced with the sensor disabled while her husband’s watch had his sensor enabled. There’s a 50/50 chance the refurbished unit could come with the sensor disabled.

It is not 50/50, IF you have AC+ like I stated originally, Apple will provide a refurb with SpO2 enabled.

I don't have sleep apnea and I don't think the blood ox sensor is very accurate (based on comparing results with a medical professional), so for me, the only thing that appeals is the new black titanium. That's not enough to entice me to upgrade from my Ultra 1.

Yes if you have AppleCare+, Apple will replace your watch with a refurbished watch, but this article didn’t specify that it would have the sensor enabled, and like I said my friend doesn’t have her sensor on her S6 activated.

I still believe it’s 50/50, as my friend had AppleCare+, and she received a refurbished unit with the sensor disabled. I’m not saying everyone will have the sensor disabled but some will.
I will just say that if/when my S7 has a battery replacement under AC+ and I’d get a replacement watch that has a feature disabled, namely blood oxygen - I will take Apple to small claims court. AC+ is an extended warranty and a replacement has to have the same features as the original.

Seconded.

I just had my S6 replaced under AppleCare+ for a worn battery and the replacement had SPo2 enabled. I specifically asked the specialist if my replacement would have the sensor enabled and he said warranty replacements that have an active sensor will be replaced with a refurbished device with an active sensor. If you pay out of pocket for the replacement, you will receive a watch with the sensor disabled..

Yup, that has been my understanding all along

Well, I don’t have to worry about the sensor being disabled, as I upgraded my Ultra 1 to the Ultra 2 from Costco, and will be trading in my Ultra 1 to Apple for a gift card, to put towards my 17PM next year.
