Apple is really going after rich buyers with a newfound greed... Of course the $10,000-$17,000 price is ridiculous for a product that likely costs around $1,000 to produce but to top it off in order to get an extra year of service Edition buyers have to spend $1,500 on AppleCare. Ding it? It's $1,000 for each service on top of the $1,500.

Get a grip, Apple. The Edition is still the same Watch deep down. This is priced stupidly high for stupidity's sake.

Hmm. I've not heard this inane argument before in the weeks following the apple Watch pricing announcement.

My goodness. It's like discretionary spending isn't a concept you're familiar with.

Canadian price after 13% tax... (42mm)

- Sports with rubber band: $586.47
- SS with rubber band: $880.27
- SS with SS linked band: $1467.87

Even with the average poor people's models... SS model costs almost 3x the sports for the same thing inside.

I think it's even funnier that, should anyone actually want to buy the Edition, they have to wait longer than anyone else with a shipping estimate of August!

Jeez, Apple was not ready at all for this launch.

True, but if you're going to plunk down $10k+ for the Edition, you could probably spend an additional $350-$1100 to get a different version while you wait.

This entire project has been rushed if you really think about it. We know Apple and we know their values along with what they strive for. Apple is not an 18-hour battery life on a product like this kind of brand. Not only that, but the initial reveal was about three-quarters of a year ago, and pre-orders are just starting. We're hearing reports that the interface is clunky, et cetera. It should be noted that I did pre-order the Watch but it's quite evident that they rushed every aspect of this thing because they 'had to'. I guess I'm the fool, though, because they still got my money, but Apple could've done much better - even for the first generation.

Considering that a device under AppleCare can get exchanged completely if broken, and that the Edition Watch is made by hand, the price is not entirely outrageous.

I'm curious about the actual cost to produce the Edition. I'm sure the S/S and Sport have healthy 40% margins, but I think you're right; the Edition can't cost more than $1,500 to produce.

It's crazy to think that there may be a 80-90% profit margin on the Apple Watch Edition.

If you count the hands of those underpaid Foxconn workers, sure.

(Although I do hope the Edition is made in the U.S...)

And then come to your senses, realise you don't use the $350 one and cancel the $10k+ one.

Well, the premium additions are basically just for flaunting and flashing anyway. There's no functional difference aside from the bands, so I'm not surprised Apple is just arbitrarily fluctuating the prices for surfacing merely by namesake alone. It's exactly what the buyers of the premium editions are doing in the first place.

I can't see anyone buying the edition models as the kind of people who would spend that kind of money on a watch would go for a 'real' watch like a Jaeger or Philippe Patek or similar and not a smartwatch. I'm a luxury watch lover myself and wouldn't pay that kind of money for a smartwatch even if I was a billionaire.

Without the wealty, you would have no job!

When was the last time you worked for a poor person?

Um you obviously don't know my politics. :) It was more of a not so serious jab at liberals who seem to be so concerned about Edition buyers. :D

an insurance for an expensive object costs much more than an insurance for a much cheaper one.

Shocker!

A new thread on this today when we've known about the inflated prices since the Watch event obviously intended for wealthy customers to show off their wealth?

Or are people pissed that Apple didn't announce an upgradable option for the Edition now that they've started selling them?
