Today in our community -Murfreesboro, Smyrna, La Vergne, Nashville, TN- we had the good fortune to have the Blue Angels do a flyover.

It was supposed to be in support of all the Covid workers, Doctors, Nurses, EMTs, essentials.

Lots of folks on FB, and other social media around here were gaga for it.

I couldn't think of a more stupid, empty, or wasteful gesture.

It supposedly cost $60,000 an hour and It probably only took about an hour to do but still... smh.

Well, it's like the English folk clapping for the NHS at 8 pm every week. How many of these folk have donated to NHS charities?

I did, for the record. Captain Tom Moore should get a knighthood.

I’m sure the money was already appropriated for training. That’s what this is being charged as. Nothing to see here.

Apparently there are more scheduled across the USA so there will be more money spent on training..

You probably think that those are dollars wasted, but the added cost is $0.
Those airplanes (and the pilots) have to fly a certain amount of time a year, and they have to go to certain distance. Flyovers and airshows count toward training and maintenance - which is even more important now because they have less scheduled opportunities to fly. Talk to a military pilot and he will explain to you how it works.

I think you did a fine job!

I still think it is a hollow gesture but am glad to know the money isn't wasted. ;)

No prob.
Symbolism is important, but it certainly seen differently by different people, so to each one his or her own. I loved it and it certainly helped my mood, others I am sure hated it, others were certainly mild about the flyover.
However I’d love to fly on one of those birds!!!
