Wow Im amazed!! (Ultima III)

So I decide to get ready for my total Mac experience (getting an iMac G5 17 or 20" soon) by giving my nephew my old PC and setting up my iBook as my main computer. I have it up on my iCurve hooked into my 21" Sony trinitron monitor. Feels good.

So I stumble across Ultima III for the mac but it only runs on 9. I dig out my original iBook install disks and run through the classic install process and all is well.

I fire up Ultima III and it works!! Woot!! Triumph #1 for the evening.

So I remember that the Quake III demo runs in classic so I grab it off of IDs site and install it not really expecting much. Holy smokes was I surprised to see it run AWSOME on my G3 700 iBook with 384 megs. Woot!!

Wow...Ultima III. Courageous! I wanted so badly to love that game, but it's so evil.... Now Ultima IV-VI were a lot of fun. I really miss Ultima IV. That game holds a special place in my heart.

I guess this should be very doable... For one, I think QEMU or MacBochs is fast enough to run Ultima IV easily.

I know! I googled that when you made the comment and I was like...YES.

Apparently there was also a project called Ultima V: Lazarus, that tried to make a 3D version of Ultima V as a Dungeon Siege expansion pack, but stalled at the alpha phase... The alpha demo is floating 'round the net, though.

I don't know if you ever heard of it, but on the Amiga, there was actually a really, really nice game whose complexity was somewhere between Ultima III and IV called Antepenult. It featured conversation on the level of Ultima IV, but I don't think it had anything nearly as sophisticated as the virtue system. But it was a really, really fun game. I think maybe one of my favorite free games.

I'm sure it would easily run in emulation on a Mac.

You would also need a ROM image, which ahem, is easy to find (I guess, since we actually have an Amiga somewhere, I can legally get one...).

Anyone else have any game recommendations to re-live the glory that was Ultima IV? I think we did this before, but I can't remember.

Funny you mention the UV thing, I happen to have that sitting on my desktop waiting for me to get dungeon siege. I recently left UO and long for the originals. Now I long no more.

I was into the Amiga for a bit. I think I still have one sitting in my garage somewhere. Probably next to my TI99-4/A.

I will have to check out your game recomendation.
