Hello,

My username is EV0LUTION and I haven't had any PC for 3 weeks now.

I just recently purchased a mac book pro for college and i am amazed at the technology this notebook has crammed into it! The OS is so flawless I can't ever see myself going beck to such an inferior OS.

I do a lot of web dev and design (I'll be majoring in Computer Science at MIT) and Mac just makes it so much easier and stream lined to operate the programs I was already using on my PC.

This thing is awesome!

Welcome to the Mac world and to the Forum

Make yourself at home and enjoy

Wow MIT, you must be some kind of genius! :p

Welcome to the Brotherhood!:D

Hope you enjoy your time here!:)

Ubuntu with parallels works... some tweaking required! For any linux distro, you're seriously better off with BC!

Just bought a new MacBook Pro huh.... new ones are coming out in a month or so :D

I needed this now, and really the only upgrades that are going to be put in the new MBP are faster processing capabilities and maybe a better GPU. I'm perfectly happy with my MBP as it stands now

yea no worries.

has anyone installed ubuntu with parallels?

No, but VirtualBox can do it for free.

There really isn't a need for Ubuntu (at least I have found) with the Mac system.

Keep in mind, before I switched to Mac, I was a pretty big Ubuntu guy, dual booting only into Windows when I needed to.

thanks for the info it looks like the mac is the best of 3 worlds

Just wanted to say congrats and welcome to CS (BSCS from UCSD '99 here) and MIT (my boss's school).

Also instead of Parallels give Fusion a good hard look. V2.0 is in beta and it is insane + VMWare is the golden child of the virtualization industry.

I work at home on Tues/Thurs as a .NET developer. Simply load up a Fusion VM w/ XP SP2, VPN in to work, and everything is rock solid. Bought my MBP 3 mos ago, haven't used a Mac since school (had a Powerbook Duo 280c throughout school). Pretty much same sentiments here.

Whohoo! Join the club! I got a Macbook Pro for college. It's a requirement for the program I am going into.

I love this machine and it is certainly getting its use. I hope you enjoy it!

I'm a big computer guy, and my MBP is amazing, :D I have WinXp on dual boot for games only :( I know sad right? I never use it and it just takes up 20 gigs of space, I'm probably even going to remove that because I have an Xbox360 now.

As far as Ubuntu and Mac... Not much need. :D OSX is *nix based with Darwin running beneith it. You can run most the same *nix commandline functions and even X11. I have a PC runnining Ubuntu (dual with XP for the same reason :D ) and it works very well with my Mac via SSH. That'll do until I figure out OSx86 ;)

Aren't you suppose to buy Thinkpads? ;)

I'm male...

Well it is MIT, so it was wrong to assume you were female. ;)

Welcome aboard, its great to see the occasional "Awesome No complaints here" post.... :p:p:p:p

I agree that the MBP has an incredible design in and of itself, compared to all the Notebooks ive ever seen, and ive seen alot working on various types of computers.

Im tempted at the new ones that might be released soon, theyre stunning!

goodluck with your MBP & MIT.

**** you for getting into MIT. Seriously.

I was wait listed and rejected last year. such is life. I do quite well anyhow.

Congrats!
