I've just received confirmation of the shipment of my iPod mini, 5 days before the ship on or before date. It seems it in fact shipped from the factory on the 15 July (ironically the day my airport express was supposed to ship) but has departed the Apple Luxembourg depot today. Should give some hope to euro customers who thought there may be delays, especially after the airport express delays.
I ordered the second the Apple store went back up, so quickly in fact that I would be surprised if anyone ordered before me. My only problem now is I wimped out afraid (being a guy) I couldn't pull off pink so I ordered blue. Then overnight I changed my mind back but the queue was way too long by then to order a pink through Apple. So now I have two pink minis on order at different stores too!
