I have had this problem twice. I have an Apple Watch 4. This happened once before 5.1 and then again last night.
Right before going to bed I charged my Apple Watch so it had a full or near full battery. On both occasions I woke up in the morning to a nearly drained battery. I do wear my Watch during sleep but normally that doesn't use much battery at all. This morning when I woke up I had almost 600 active calories and I had met my stand goal for every hour of the night. It was clear from looking at Cardiogram was that what was causing the battery drain was that the watch was constantly checking my heart rate. (note that workout mode was NOT running).
The first time this happened the exact same thing occurred. At that time I "fixed" it by restarting the Watch. I had hoped that 5.1 had fixed whatever caused the original problem. But, it clearly hasn't.
Does this sound like a hardware problem?
