is everyone else's icon in the finder actually the icon for the old alu mbp 15", rather than the icon for the unibody 13" mb (fa08)?

A MacBook is a MacBook is a MacBook

Your HD icon should be the same

Your computer icon should be the universal MacBook/Pro icon

to clarify- i'm not talking about the HD icon. that's always the same across all macs.

I'm referring to the "computer" icon that looks like, well, a computer. on the old unibody 13" MB, the icon is of the actual unibody macbook with black bezel and silver body.

The new 13" MB Pro "computer" icon in the finder, maybe because the device is a new type that isn't recognized properly by the OS, now is of the old 15" aluminum, all-silver, non-unibody MBP.

I'm guessing this is the case for everyone's new 13", and not the new 15" or 17", since only the 13" MB *Pro* is a brand new model of machine, while the 15s and 17s have previously existed.

Are you talking about the icon left of Desktop?

You know what they say...a picture is worth many stupid questions and answers, and might help us solve your problem.

Do you really need a screen shot? Open Finder, look at your computer icon. It should be an icon of your computer. I guess he's trying to say that his unibody mbp is actually the icon from the old mbp. Obviously this is because 10.5.7 came out before the macs did, but you would think they would use the older unibody mbo icons is what he's saying.

They never had icons for the old unibodies either.

I would check again under 10.6.

On a side note - Thanks for showing me where to turn off displaying iDisk in the sidebar :)

I'm pretty sure you can change it if you want. Highlight it in the finder there like in the pictures, and select "get info." In the "info" box, you can "paste" into the icon at the top left. Copy a picture from somewhere else (example here) and paste it in.

This doesn't work, however, I am quite glad to now be rid of iDisk!

Same here.

Just got my 13" mbp and it's the same. Weirdness

Oh and the "old" oct08 mbp are showing the right icon. Anyone know where the icons are held on the mac? system / library maybe?

It's in Finder. Doubleclick the macHD icon on your desktop and look on the left. The icon will either be there or not.

If it's not, click "Finder" menu, then "Preferences". In the "Sidebar" pane, check the box next to "computer." It should now show up.

If it IS in sidebar already, click it once, then click "File" "Get Info..."

Cool, thanks. Going to check my 13" mbp right now.
