I am having an issue with Yosemite on my MacBook Pro 13 2015. I typically work with a second monitor connected via a Thunderbolt dock. On the secondary monitor, file icons are wrong. For example, I have installed PDF Pen and changed all PDFs to open with PDF Pen (instead of Acrobat). But the icon still shows Acrobat. If I drag the icon to my MacBook's screen, the icons switch to the correct app. As soon as I drag it back to the secondary monitor, they switch back to the old app. This is true for all other desktop icons - on my MacBook screen they are correct but on the secondary monitor they are associated with old apps.
The correct app opens when the file is clicked, but the icon is wrong. The problem is most obvious on the desktop, but also manifests when I drag finder windows back and forth between the monitors. However in this case sometimes the right icon stays, while others seem to change for no reason.
I have rebuilt the icon cache and also Launch Services but the problem remains. Any ideas?
