Hi,
A friend of mine had someone hook this type of setup for them and since they can't tell me how it was done I'm hoping I can get some answers here.
I have a Linksys WRTP54G (the Vonage version, not the plain WRT54G) and an Airport Express. I just got a Vista box that doesn't have a wireless card. I've had the AE sitting around for some time and I'd like to make use of it rather than going and spending cash on a wireless PCI for the PC.
What I'd like to do is set up the AE as a WDS remote off the Linksys router and use it to make an ethernet connection to the PC rather than as a wireless node.
My problems are:
a) the Linksys firmware doesn't have a WDS option. I know for the WRT54G you can get open source firmware to solve this problem, but I don't know if such fw exists for the 'P' version or if the other firmware will also work on this router (I don't use the Vonage connections anymore so no bother if they disappear as far as the fw knows).
b) once/if set up for WDS, how do I get the AE to attach to the Linksys router (this is easy with an Airport base station obviously, but I'm not sure what the settings would be to connect to another manufacturers router).
c) once attached to the Linksys, will the ethernet port automatically act as a wired internet connection or do I have to tell the AE to treat it as such and, if so, how?
Any help the MR forumers can provide will be greatly appreciated!
