We'll see! $1200 is my limit on what I'll pay for a phone, from any company. I can easily afford more, but they just aren't worth it. Sorry Apple.

Ah well, my 16 Pro should be good for the next 4-5 years. In the future, maybe I'll move down to the SE or a Pixel or similar.

I think this is the right thing to do for Apple shareholders. I am sure that some will complain - but most will join the line for the new phone on launch day. It is good that they are advertising it now - Apple users should start saving more for the new phone and the privilege of owning one.

Nice way to boost profits and keep shareholders happy. Iphone users are always happy to have the privilege of owning one.

Already purchased an iPhone 16 Pro Max and incredibly disappointed with Apple after this purchase. There’s no way I would spend even more money based on false promises from my company that’s not proving itself for the last several years and then says cheaper materials are more premium. The lies just keep coming.

Apple seems to be turning into a company full of lies. Thanks to its tacky leadership.

Most don't buy on launch day; that's an enthusiasts move. Everyone else just upgrades when their contract is up or their battery life becomes unacceptable.

The Apple users around me don't even know there is a new iPhone until several weeks after it releases.

I think I've mentioned it as a reply to one of your posts before, but I have the same budget philosophy for phones. $1200 is my limit. I've been willing to pay extra for better cameras (I have a 16PM currently), but I recently purchased a "real" camera, so in the future I too will definitely consider spending less on a phone.

Apple can afford to take a hit on behalf of their customers if they want to ... which I suspect they won't, because they still see themselves as a 'premium' company and besides, shareholder profits come first above everything.

That said, donning my tinfoil hat for a minute, if this is true, how long before we start seeing reports of current phones somehow 'slowing down' or batteries degrading sooner than expected, or certain i-Services 'requiring' a new phone to work correctly, or other ... things that 'encourage' people to upgrade?

Right now nothing we've heard about future IOS or iPhone updates has me salivating to throw more money at them....

They should postpone the iPhone 17 lineup this year and focus on putting Apple Intelligence on all the devices they already sold with the promise of Apple Intelligence.

I told my wife, with these tariffs I'm screwed when it comes to getting a new iPhone. I'm on an iPhone 14 Pro Max. We alternate paying monthly for iPhones. She just got an iPhone 16 Pro Max, so I won't be able to get a new phone until we finish paying that one off. But by that time, the price of the iPhone 17 Pro Max for me will probably be too expensive.

Whenever I buy a new iPhone, I've always gone for the biggest and best. But I may have to readjust that plan and go with one generation behind the latest.

Tariffs are levied on the cost of build. So if it costs apple $200 to build an iPhone, 20% of that is $40…

I believe they will raise the price by $100 because they know most people don’t understand tariffs. That’s extra profit. That’s how you get your $1M donation back, Tim.

when apple raise their prices, it usually doesn't have much to do anything other than them being greedy. take a look at the price jump from ipad 9th to 10th gen, and now compare that to 11th.

And I'm sure this will be a global increase, not a domestic one. Which funnily enough means iPhones sold outside the US will be even more profitable for Apple!
Always with the price gouging and greed meme. Give it rest.

Not so much if they sell less phones.
We may be parasites but we ain't stupid, disastrous AI+lame design and specs+atrocious current price+increase of the atrocious current price = bye bye Apple

Does it need to be though?
I don't know how things work with Apple but IF, the phones are finished and pass final inspection and packaging in China, they have no need to go via the US?
They can then go direct from China to their intended destination. No tariff needed.

Unfortunately not really a meme, it springs to mind that Sony and Microsoft have increased console prices globally, I'm sure others will follow suit. Apple have always adjusted international prices to match or exceed the US dollar price so it's probably inevitable.

As you say, Samsung and the rest of the phone industry will probably match Apple's price too - like when the iPhone X hit $1000.

We all gotta' pucker up!
