As my previous posts in this part of the forum have noted, I'm getting ready to - um... half-switch (I love my PC too much; don't have the problems most do. I just want another cute little baby ^_^), and have been looking at the product line; seeing what was coming up.
I think I'd prefer to get the next PowerBook update, but if I do and its more than a simple processor-bump type of thing, I've been told to wait for people to 'beta test' it for issues.
Anyway; the big issue is that I'd like to get the order right before this summer's WWDC (Assuming I get a student scholarship, I can't justify a convention with that sort of entry fee as a fulltime student) -- but my worry (especially if new powerbooks haven't been announced) is that I'll show up and at the Keynote Mr. Jobs will give an "And one more thing" and my 'latest and greatest' powerbook I got a few days ago will no longer be. Which would perturb me a bit
.
While I realize that this is a touch early for any reliable speculation; from what everyone is saying I take it that odds of a PB update @ the WWDC are high odds if nothing comes before then. On the other hand; I can't really experiment with what I learn at the conference with my PC laptop.
I realize this is asking for the standard "buy or not" response of "wait!" countered by "there's always something to wait for!" -- but thats not what I'm after. I'm sure even if new books are announced at the conference the one I have (if I bought one) would be "good enough," but I see it as a no-win situation. I really want new PBs -- and /new/ PBs. Not just a speed bump. But I'm unaware (please correct me) of anything between now and WWDC where it could be announced (and it would be, IMHO, too big not to have at a 'keynote' of some kind).
So on the one hand; I want the updates now. But if they come out now, I know it won't be a huge update. On the other, if I get what I want then I'll be in the situation of not having a notebook to work on at the WWDC.
... Wow I've ranted *cringe*
Anyway; basic points:
1.) What, if any, big events are there between now and the WWDC (June-July crossover) that could justify new PB announcements
2.) If anyone has been to the WWDC; can you tell me how useful having a PowerBook there to work on (test other people's examples and play with them, that sort of thing) is
3.) Does anyone have a history of what's been announced at the WWDC (last year it was the iSight, IIRC, which they gave all the attendees)
Thanks!
