Is there any talk about this beyond the obvious "I'd like AppleCare to start matching the industry standard three years by default and then have an option for buying an additional two years."?

I'm just wondering if anyone really sees this happening at either WWDC '08 or MacWorld '09.

That's strange. I remember seeing "3 years standard" on several PCs out in the world. Ah, well.

They need to offer a 5-year AppleCare plan, though. They could charge double for it and people would still buy it. I know; I'm one of them.

Me too — but what they really need to offer is a supplemental charge (or AppleCare Pro, whatever) that covers accidental damage. Obviously some people just have home insurance, but people would willingly pay for it.
