Guys, I'm looking to buy a magic keyboard and trackpad for my MBP. Should I wait till the after the WWDC in case new versions are released? Or is there no chance a new version of each will be released?

Everything was just updated to Bluetooth Low Energy with the 24" iMac in 2021. Probably no new peripherals for another four years. You can however buy cheap second-hand peripherals from people, who also bought them for their MacBook and later realized, they don't need more than the built-in keyboard and trackpad.

No way to know (I tend to think it's unlikely), but WWDC is only a week away. I'd probably hold off juuuuust in case.

Thanks guys.

@Gudi that's my plan exactly. I have my eyes on a Magic Keyboard with numeric keys and Touch ID for £80. And a trackpad 2 for £60 😃

Slightly off topic, but I am hoping that the recent discounts on the iPad Magic Keyboard means a new version is in the offing.

they should just release a Magic Mouse with non-retarded charging port placement ... possibly more ergonomical

also Magic Trackpad with higher polling rate...

and also Magic Keyboard with reversed-T arrow keys and backlight

I'd love to see the mini (non-numeric keypad) version of the Magic Keyboard with black keys. I think there is a non-negligible chance of that and am holding out for that reason. I also want to see what third-party manufacturers might introduce during WWDC.

I'm surprised the 2021 models of the trackpad and keyboard weren't updated to USB-C as Apple's been going this way for quite some time.

The keyboard seems like an area I thought Apple would maybe try something different - if it's something more ergonomic or implementing haptic feedback or a gesture area or something. Seems like somewhere they could try something new without much risk and fairly low investment.

I'd love to see a new mouse that's more ergonomic. I don't mind the Magic Mouse for light use, but man does it get annoying quick when using it for anything serious.

With regards to polling rate, I believe it cannot go higher without a change to the Bluetooth standard. Wireless mice using 2.4GHz dongles are far superior for that reason, up to 1,000Hz compared to I think 125Hz for Bluetooth. 125Hz isn't great.

USB-C is possible for the next iMac refresh, but I personally estimate a few more years, perhaps the M4 or M5 era. They seem to be very slow to update their peripherals, the only thing that might move the needle is the necessity to axe Lightning from iPhones.

I was going to wait to see if USB-C devices were released but almost caved in this morning as there was a wireless keyboard going on eBay for around £60. I bid £65 but lost out by £2.

I'd hold out for another week if you can, new iMac probably won't come until the fall if it's not at WWDC. They seem to only update their keyboard/mice with new iMac revisions; since 2007.

I would love to have an ergonomic Apple Mouse of some kind -- or even some kind of conventionally-shaped mouse would be fine. I find the current Magic Mouse completely unusable. I was kind of OK with the old Mighty Mouse (the one with the little trackball as a scroll wheel). Otherwise, prior to that, the only Apple mouse I liked was the original Macintosh single button mouse.

I started to think financially - a new trackpad is approximately £130 whereas new on eBay is around £50-£70. Half price :) Same fractions with the keyboard. For the sake of just the connection, I'd much rather save half :)

I bought a second hand trackpad a month ago because I desperately needed, but I will only buy a new device (of any kind) if it comes with USB-C.

It's obvious that Apple is going to move their peripherals to USB-C, and my guess is that they (keyboard, trackpad, mouse) will be released tomorrow at WWDC. Deffinitely in 2023, along with the iPhone 15.

So when the new trackpad comes along, I'll sell this one and buy the new.
