I'm using a thumb drive for my music that I play in my car through its USB port. The player is able to pick up the contents of the thumb drive but has a pretty hard time sorting through the albums, artists and songs that are on the drive - consequently I usually just leave my player on random and FF through the tracks I don't want to hear. The car in question is a Mini - the stereo is the HiFi in case this makes a difference.
What I'd like to be able to do is edit my thumb drive using a wysiwig editor that can list the contents of the drive by artist/album etc. I've thought about creating a new profile in Snow Leopard and using iTunes but that seems like a lot of work. I've also thought about adding the thumb drive to an existing iTunes install and unchecking the box where it automatically adds the music to the iTunes library, however, I don't want to have to manage the files that are going to show up with the (!) next to them when the thumb drive is removed.
Does anyone have a solution that they use to manage the musical contents of their thumb drives?
