So in that case they're wrong in the main forums too — the read posts are closed envelopes and the unread posts are open envelopes.

I'd always assumed it meant "There are posts here" for the open envelope and "There are no posts here to read" for the closed.

The icons look right to me. Am I missing something?

The open mailbox/envelope is stuffed with unread letters. The other has been emptied and read.

But maybe I'm too used to the "you've got mail" Mailbox icon with the letters sticking out when I used to use AOL in the 90's.

The envelope icon for read messages is closed, whereas the unread icon is open. If the envelope is closed, how could the messages have been read? ;)
oh, they could have been read with x-ray vision! hahahahahahaha:D

Just think of it as an empty, unsealed envelope...

Nobody's stuffed anything into it yet...

It's been emptied of everything...

I don't know...whatever makes sense to you.
