when i launch either inkscape or gimp, the app will launch, then x11 will launch, and then nothing will come up... anyone know how to fix this?

x11 apps hang, help plz

I have seen inkscape to really wait.. and wait... and wait.. (could be minutes sometimes!! ) before actually launching its GUI in X11.
.... and this is on a Quad!
So, seriously, just quit all apps.... launch inkscape... make sure X11 is running.. then get some coffee.
