I am trying to get Grace via Fink (*big mistake* the most horrible compile-nightmare).

So I followed someone's stupid recommendation of deleting X11 and restoring it after compile. Of course, the new macbook doesn't come with an install CD. So I'm screwed.

Suffice to say, I have corrupted my libraries:
MacBook-Pro:~user$ /Applications/Grace.app/Contents/MacOS/start.sh
dyld: Library not loaded: /usr/X11/lib/libX11.6.dylib
Referenced from: /Applications/Grace.app/Contents/Resources/grace/bin/xmgrace
Reason: Incompatible library version: xmgrace requires version 10.0.0 or later, but libX11.6.dylib provides version 9.0.0
/Applications/Grace.app/Contents/MacOS/start.sh: line 4: 30610 Trace/BPT trap: 5 /Applications/Grace.app/Contents/Resources/grace/bin/xmgrace

Now the new XCode doesn't include X11.

XQuartz is ****, it doesn't replace X11.

Essentially I am left unable to get X11 working.

I am desperate.

When I try compiling Grace with Fink I get a motif error due to library issues:

checking for a Motif >= 1002 compatible API... no

configure: error: M*tif has not been found

X11 is not part of Xcode - never has been afaik.

You can download XQuartz from here.

Also, you should go get a USB drive to use as a time machine backup for the next time you have a brain fart.

One other thing, and this may spark a debate, but I dropped fink in favor of macports. I've had better luck with it.

On another note, is there a way of using Grace with XQuartz,

or is there a way of solving the library inconsistencies, as Grace refuses to load. ????

I have a fresh new install of 10.8 and needed to get macports installed on it anyway. So I decided to try out grace - had never heard of it, but looks like it will be very useful. Anyway, it did install and runs fine under xquartz. Here are all the decencies:

Code:
$ sudo port install grace
