ok well long story short my computer broke and my stuff gone , and now i don't have X11 so i got it from my instillation CD. i wanted re download Gimp and for some reason gimp version is 2.6.11, and my X11 is 2.3.4 and im pretty sure they should be the same but when i go to the software update it says no new software. in order for gimp to work i must have the latest X11 or it crashes upon opening, so any ideas?

Get Gimp from http://gimp.lisanet.de/Website/Download.html It should work with the X11 from your CD. If it crashes, post the crash report.

this is where i downloaded it in the first place, how do i go about getting the crash report.

edit: re downloaded and restarted computer and it works perfectly

Oh, for Heaven's Sake. The GIMP website clearly tells you that X11 ships with your computer and that you do not need to update to a newer version of X11 or XQuartz. The latest stable version of the GIMP is GIMP 2.6.11. Version numbers for X11 are not synchronized with the version numbers of the GIMP.

In fact, the latest version of X11 is XQuartz 2.6.0. The version installed on my system is X11 2.3.6. As a test prior before posting this response, I installed GIMP 2.6.11. Double-clicking he GIMP launched X11 2.3.6 hosting the GIMP with nary a hitch. There is absolutely no reason to believe that you will have any more trouble with X11 2.3.4.

If you have a problem, then it is not in X11 and it is not in the GIMP.
