Hey Guys,

I'm installing Matlab 7 on my computer and it requires me to have X11 as well. However, when I try and install X11 I have the error "You cannot install X11 on this volume. newer software already exists on your computer." Any ideas what I might be able to do?

you should not post same post in two boards

anyway.
take a look at your ~/applications/utilities, is there an X11?

ok,
1. where is your X11 package from?
2. do you have other Xfree86 package installed?

oh, ok, that X11 download is too old, you should have a X11 package on your Tiger Disk, try insert that disk and looking for it.

here is a guide of how to install it
http://porting.openoffice.org/mac/faq/installing/X11.html

Xfree86 is an implementation of X(11). Just want to make sure you didn't install it, since in some cases, people will install them for apps like FINK.

Insert the installation disk 1
Goto /System/Installation/Packages/X11User.pkg
Double click to install

oh, that is an Update, lol, try searching around google, see if you can find anywhere to download the X11.

The apple's website only provide the X11 for OSX 10.3, because they think 10.4 users can just get it from the disk...

I don't think there is anything else helpful I can offer for now, sorry

Good luck finding it.

I'm at work so I don't have the installation disk with me right now. Is there anyway that one of you guys could possibly upload the file somewhere so I could grab it?
