X850XT replace EEPROM

Hi,

i want to buy a 850XT for my G5. To get it to work i must desolder the 64k ROM and replace it by a 128k ROM.

Now the question: Do I have to take a ROM from the same company, or can I use Atmel, Megawin, ST the way I want?

Other question: Is the X850XT compatible with Ubutu 16.04 and MorphOS?

Yes they are compatible. Its good to use the same chip just with bigger capacity but in real life you can use any brand. If still in doubt for what type of chip you need Send a pic of the chip and I can precisely tell you what chip you will need for the replacement.
