Recently I decided to upgrade my 20gb 4 year old Xbox 260 for a new 250GB model.

First new 250GB Xbox I received crashed on day one about 10 minutes into every game.

Sent back and got a new one, which does not crash. However, it is incredibly hot over the vent on top (I have it horizontal). I appreciate that its good for it to be venting out hot air, but after an hour, its incredibly hot. Its not crashed or shown any signs.

Is this normal? My old-style xbox 360 got nowhere near as hot.......

I've heard from numerous people that the newer style xbox is hotter to the touch than the older style.

As long as you have sufficient airflow around the console (ie: don't put it in a tv cabinet or stacked with other equipment), I wouldn't worry about it.

The newer style xbox will shut itself off if it overheats before it melts (the older style would keep running until the bitter end).
