I use an XBOX 360 Controller in macOS over VMware into work.

I have a new Mac Pro still on 10.15.3 where it works correctly - I plug it into my usb hub and the user lights blink until it's used by some app (local or remote). This happens totally outside the context of it working in VMware, it's just how the OS reads it when plugged in. Note that it worked with NO special drivers at all installed, nothing home-brew or even official, it 'just worked'.

It used to work on my Mac Book Pro on 10.15.3, but when upgrading that machine to 10.15.5 it no longer worked.

My IT dept said that either .4 or .5 broke it but nobody knows why.

Does anybody know if/how/why certain USB devices stopped working after 10.15.3 and if there are any workarounds or under the hood fixes for this?

I'm afraid to upgrade my primary (Mac Pro) OS simply because I won't be able to use the controller and I need it.
