It's Christmas time!

And this year I got a Xbox 360 but I've ran into a few issues off the bat.

I've been trying to configure my network settings all day now and seeing I don't know really anything about computers let alone anything else electronic I need some help.

So I'm using my computers internet for the Xbox, I've got a wireless router downstairs and I'm currently on my iMac which I plan to connect with the Xbox, the iMac is connected wirelessly. After reading many guides and questionaires I've noticed that it is possible to use my computer as the internet source but so far I haven't quite figured it out.

Currently my IP settings I believe are working, it's my DNS that's a problem.

After reading a guide that had told me to do everything manually and how to do it I am currently with this

Ip Settings Manual
IP Address 169.254.162.150
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Gateway 169.254.162.149

Now that is fine, it's connected me to the network

Here's the problem I've run into, I was told that I use my routers IP for both primary and secondary DNS servers

so I have it set up like

DNS Settings Manual
Primary DNS Server 192.168.1.254
Secondary DNS Server 192.168.1.254

After the connect tests I can't connect through internet.

What I think might be the problem is I only have 1 DNS server it seems when I go to terminal and do the respective code 'cat /etc/resolv.conf' only lists 1.

It seems you should just add 1 to the end of your primary DNS IP for secondary, I tried it '255' and it didn't work,

Think I can find some help for this? Kinda desparate

Thanks,
Crunch

I don't know if this is helpful at all, but I use an airport extreme that uses my macbook as the internet source to eliminate the configuration hassles when doing it manually like you are. The only thing I had to put in manually was the DNS and I just set it to the IP address of my computer. Basically it is XBOX -> Airport Extreme -> Macbook Ethernet Port.

For your situation, try using the IP address of your wireless connection. I've done this several times, but it seems like every time I do it, the settings are totally different. It just takes some tweaking to get it right, so don't give up!

Hope this helps!

Same problem here. I connect to the network, but not to the internet.

I enabled internet sharing and my Live worked for a day or two, but when I plugged my macbook pro into it today, nothing.

Help?
